Some would say my 2016 didn't end too well or my 2017 didn't start off on the best note…
We had friends over the house for New Year's Eve, and that evening I received one of those dreaded phone calls.
It was my brother...
My aunt had passed away.
Totally unexpected, my dad found her when he got home.
My aunt was my mom's twin sister (my mom passed in 2010), the caretaker of my dad, and because she had no kids of her own, treated my brother and I like her kids.
So she was much more than the aunt you saw just on the holidays. Why am I sharing this?
One...writing is one of my outlets, so I enjoy putting my thoughts on paper.
Two...I hope I've built much more of a personal relationship with my readers rather than just a "fitness blog."
Plus, I'm not one to "fake" how I feel and write some nice motivational message on a Monday morning when that's not what I'm feeling.
Three...It's time to rally.
This will be one of many setbacks...
I have many areas of opportunities, but one of my largest strengths is to rally, to embrace the suck, to deal with whatever deck has been dealt and use this as even more motivation to live a healthier, passionate, and empowered life.
I'm heartbroken.
I'm freaking out about what I'm going to do with my dad.
Since she was his caretaker, I'll most likely have to move him up here closer to me.
But I'll rally.
What can you learn from this?
Today is the day.
2017 will be full of ups and downs.
You can choose to complain about them, or you can choose to conquer them.
You may receive news like this...
You may be dealing with personal issues...
Your dog may have thrown up on the carpet...
Your kid might have kept you up at night...
But you'll rally.
And those that continue to push, continue to strive for 1% better, will come out on top.
Life's too short to sit, complain, and woe is me.
With all of that 2017 will be filled with...
New memories...
New personal records...
New experiences...
New joys..
Please remember those as you also deal with the downs of this rollercoaster we call life.
It's time to rally.
Dedicated to Your Success,
Doug Spurling
