Can You Master This?

I was doing my daily stumble through Facebook yesterday and I came across a great quote I just had to share. 

"What Gets Measured, Gets Mastered"

I think in so many ways this is true. 

Let's think of a few examples both fitness and non-fitness related. 

If you want to measure your personal finances it first starts by getting a good grasp on your budget, how much your spending...measuring how much money you spend. 

If you want to measure your nutrition you damn well better have an accurate idea of how much you're eating. So maybe a nice action item would be to start measuring your food. 

Now, you don't necessarily have to measure each individual gram of food, but by journaling your food, or plugging it into an app like My Fitness Pal you can measure how much you're taking in each day. From there you have a starting point and can go from there. 

Side note: A good rule of thumb for determining how many calories you should be taking in each day is 10x your ideal body weight. So, if you want to weight 175lbs, you should roughly be taking in 1750cals. 

Think about a carpenter building a house or working on a project in your kitchen...

"Yeah, that looks about right."

No!

You'd fire him in an instance. 

They measure things first, usually twice, before making the cut. 

If you want to master something, you must measure it. 

On the fitness side of things, it's the same...

There's a reason why each time our clients come in to do their individualized program we have them record what weights they used, the level of resistance, etc. That way we can measure it, and make sure each week we're progressing. 

Do you want to lower your body fat? Start by measuring it....

Do you want to have more time in your day? Start by measuring how you currently use your time...

Measuring something creates awareness.

Awareness causes emotion and an act of feeling. 

Then the magic happens, the changes occur. 

But it starts by measuring. 

What gets measured, gets mastered!
