Do You Put it On?

Happy Friday, STS Family!

Who’s excited for the Labor Day Weekend?

I have a day on a friends boat, a BBQ, and some wedding prep planned.

What about you?

I was able to sneak in a quick note as I layover in Baltimore from my way back from Kentucky this morning.

As always, I had a great coaching session, and I’m bringing back some new ideas to make Spurling an even better experience and community.

As I was getting ready to take off on my last flight it reminded me about a concept I mentioned in my last Mindset Seminar (another one will be coming soon, don’t worry), which is put your own mask on first.

You know what I’m talking about…

As the plane preps to depart, the flight attendant comes on and says something to the effect of…

“In the event of loss in cabin pressure, an oxygen mask will drop from the ceiling. Please put your own mask on first before assisting those around you.”

Why do they say that?

How you can be helping others, if you can’t breath, and not taking care of yourself first.

This is a great analogy to the fitness industry…

The people that are consistent, and put their best effort forward, are usually just as busy, if not busier, than those that “don’t have time.”

They just choose to make it a priority.

They took care of themselves first.

They put their own mask on first.

I love the quote…

“Instead of saying I don’t have time for X, trying saying, X is not a priority right now.”

Because lets face it, that’s the truth.

The people that make it a priority, that put their own mask on first, just say no to a few other things.

The funny thing about putting your own mask on first, making sure you schedule time for YOU, is now when you’re doing everything else (family, work, etc.) you’re that much stronger.  I’m not talking physically stronger (although that will happen too), but emotionally and mentally stronger.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be ALL IN, energetic, and productive when I’m working on my other aspects of life such as work, family, etc.

However, if I don’t first take care of myself, put my own mask on first, eat right, exercise regularly, I can’t be at my best for the people around me.

The people around you are counting on you being at your best, and that starts with taking care of YOU.

Put your own oxygen mask on first.

Enjoy your long weekend, and I’ll be back next week with some great things I learned during my coaching session!

Dedicated to Your Success,

Doug Spurling
