Can You Ask Yourself This One Question?

Yesterday  I called my dad about an hour before his doctor's appointment.

It was his first appointment up here with the new doctor so I wanted to be there.

With the snow storm, I wanted to see if he needed me to pick him up.

When I called I could tell he was driving by the music in the background.

"Dad, where are you?"

"uhh...I think I'm in Saco."

He lives in Cape Porpoise and his appointment was in Kennebunk, but somehow, he ended up in Saco.

He was lost.

Luckily for him, I talked him through it, met him at the doctor's, and all was good.

You see, my dad is like me, stubborn, and won't ask for help.

He just woke up, started driving, and thought he could find his way with no plan, or no idea where anything is around here (he just moved here from Massachusetts last week).

As a result, he ended up getting lost, and I had to step in and get him back on track.

Isn't fitness just the same?

If you know exactly where you want to go, we can help create a "map" for you to get there.

But that's not how most people approach it.

They realize they're "lost" and then they just start flooring on the gas pedal and going through the motions of exercise.

Although anything is good in the beginning, eventually you're going to look up and realize that you're either completely lost, or your wheels have you been spinning, but you're in the exact same spot you were when you started.

However, if you know you where you want to go (your goal), and you follow a map (your plan), you'll get their faster, and more efficiently.

But what happens if you don't know where to go?

I find this question helps, and I try to ask myself this question daily.

"What does success look like in ____?"

What does success look like in 30 days?

What does success look like in 12 months?

What does success look like in 5 years?

Those are all questions you should spend time thinking about.

What does your personal life look like, physically, emotionally, etc?

What does your family life look like?

What does your career look like?

What does your financial life look like?

If you can answer the question, now you have a target that you're aiming for.

You're not just shooting from the hip.

As you go about your weekend, spend some time on this question.

What does success look like in 12 months?

Then, let's just reverse engineer a plan to get you there.

If I know where you want to go, I can help anyone.

If you just want to drive 100mph, but don't know where you want to go, you might be on your own.

What does success look like to you?

1% better, right?
